To Sustain a Legacy:
The Grace Cathedral Restoration
San Francisco's Grace Cathedral has embarked on an ambitious $3-million campaign to restore its stained glass, a rare 20th-century treasure. Almost 7,300 square feet of stained glass portray some 1,100 figures, and tell the stories that span across all of time. In April, artisans completed phase one of the restoration in order that Disney Studios could begin filming its new movie.
Sentinel to Spirit Figure:
Cast Glass Sculpture by Susan B. Gott
By means of sand casting, kiln casting and blowing glass, Gott investigates the human form and connections to Spirit. Through the study of symbols and philosophies, ideas are developed to create a new mythos, resulting in glass sculpture both articulate and raw.
Stained Glass Challenge
Sarah Hall presents her Stained Glass Challenge. This quiz will test your historical, technical and artistic knowledge of stained glass. Get out your pencils.
High-End Surface Etching: Part 1
Butch Young and Rita Long begin their series on sophisticated, high-end surface etching. Part I covers general information, layout and selling techniques; Part II will address cut, paste, and freehand installment; and Part III will cover ways to create a work of art using the artwork supplied by the customer.
