Pioneers in Glass
Paul J. Stankard
This Moment Yearning and Thoughtful
by Dr. Julie Anne Denton
Photography by Jeff DiMarco, Ron Farina, and Paul Stankard
Paul J. Stankard single-handedly changed the centuries-old tradition of glass art paperweight making forever by challenging the angle from which we view the paperweight. The artist also created an enchanting, inspiring, mythical, and thoughtfully authentic artistic language that is influenced by his love of the poetry of Walt Whitman.

Connie-Vetter Johnson
Shards of Creation
by Joe Samuelson III
Contemporary artists have taken mosaic art to new levels of intricacy and awe. Connie Vetter-Johnson is among those who have abandoned the traditional style of using small squares stacked neatly together to create an image. Instead, in her mosaic panels Connie uses thousands of glass shards, each uniquely shaped, that flow together almost seamlessly to create photorealistic portraits.
